Whatever you enjoy doing in your free time, you can probably find it in British Columbia
British Columbia is a beautiful province situated on the westernmost side of Canada. While the capital of B.C. is Victoria, Vancouver is actually the highlight of the province. Vancouver has over four million residents, but there’s still plenty of nature to be enjoyed there. In fact, whatever you enjoy doing in your free time, you can probably find it in British Columbia.
Sprawled over more than 400 hectares, Stanley Park is right near downtown Vancouver and is nearly completely surrounded by water. Unlike many parks, Stanley Park wasn’t created by an expert architect, but as a result of the surrounding forest and urban areas evolving.
In addition to its beautiful natural scenery and dense forestry, Stanley Park is actually Vancouver’s first park. It was incorporated in 1886 and has since seen the addition of many attractions, including an aquarium and a miniature train.
When the weather clears up in Vancouver, everybody heads to Kitsilano Beach for some relaxation. Kitsilano is a gorgeous beach right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, but there’s more to it than that. In addition to soaking up some rays of sunshine, you can play tennis and basketball and find some delicious food nearby.
VanDusen Botanical Garden
If you’ve never been to a botanical garden before, you’re missing out. The VanDusen Botanical Garden is a sprawling wonderland filled with amazing floral displays, including many plants you may have never seen before. It was opened in 1975 and is run by a team of nine full-time gardeners who work tirelessly to keep everything in immaculate shape for visitors. You don’t have to be a floral fanatic to enjoy a walk through the VanDusen Botanical Garden; at the very least, it provides a tranquil environment for you to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Just like many urban areas, British Columbia has plenty of gambling to keep you busy. There are plenty of grandiose casinos spread throughout B.C., and thanks to NYX Gaming Group recently being awarded a gaming license in BC, there are both online and land based gaming options for you to enjoy. Social gaming has become a much larger part of the gambling scene, drawing people from all over the world to compete online in classic casino games, such as poker and blackjack, in addition to plenty of non-casino gambling games.
Capilano Suspension Bridge
If you’re afraid of heights, the Capilano Suspension Bridge may not be the best way to spend your day; although it can also be used as a safe way to kick your acrophobia. The 140-meter long, 70-meter high bridge attracts more than 800,000 people each year, but you’ll have to pay an admission fee to cross it.
Although it was originally constructed in 1889, it was updated in 1903, and later completely rebuilt in 1956. During the 1930s, the owner of Capilano Suspension Bridge asked natives to place totem poles around the park, where they can still be found today. There have been a few incidents with the bridge, but none of them were a result of the bridge’s structure.
