The Kindersley Composite School Kobras football team will host the Fort Qu’Appelle Marauders this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rotary Field in a provincial quarter-final match.

The Kobras advanced to the provincial quarters after defeating the Meadow Lake Spartans 49-14 on Thursday in the 3A conference playoffs in front of a loud and proud hometown crowd.

This latest win came after the Kobras defeated the same Spartans team 40-0 on Oct. 13 in Kindersley in the final regular season game.

However, this game was a little different and the Spartans came out strong early, leading 7-0, then 14-7 in the first quarter. The visitors were playing with enthusiasm and were looking to come away with a win.

“We knew Meadow Lake would come out strong and we were a little worried about our start,” said Coach Tavis Lehman. “But the guys responded so well. I think the key is that we woke up.”

A blocked punt and an interception, by Kevin Pinno, quickly turned the tide for the Kobras and they were up 28-14 at the half on the way to victory.
