Kindersley’s Crystal Scribner is in the race for her life as are so many other people who are fighting cancer. Crystal and her husband Floyd are regular racers at the Saskatchewan International Raceway near Saskatoon. Crystal, along with SIR, are hosting a second steak night next month at the track to raise money for the Hope Cancer Help Centre in Saskatoon. The charitable organization offers help financially and otherwise to those cancer patients who are in need. Crystal is selling tickets and looking for donations for the event that includes a silent auction. You can also giver her donations or support the cause by going on the gofundme page.

In 2017 alone,  an estimated 206,300 people were diagnosed in Canada with cancer and more than 80,000 people died with the disease.

The fight continues to find a cure to this deadly disease. It is a disease that affects people of all ages.

Kindersley’s Crystal Scribner knows all too well of the fight against cancer and she is hoping that one day soon a cure will be found.

In the meantime, she is helping to raise money for a centre that provides funding, care and support to those battling the disease – the Hope Cancer Care Centre in Saskatoon

Scribner found out that she had Stage 4 incurable cancer in December 2016. She was told that life expectancy for the type of cancer that she had was just one year – 365 days.

She said the fight started that day.

She began chemotherapy in April 2017 and was told at that time that with the treatment she could expect to survive only six-to-nine months.

In June 2017, Crystal was approached by a very close friend and was asked if it would be okay to do a steak night fundraiser for her at the Saskatchewan International Raceway in Saskatoon, where you can find Crystal and her husband, Floyd, at pretty much every weekend from June toSeptember.

Crystal said that she was grateful but declined the offer, saying that it just didn’t seem right to make it about her when there were so many others who raced that were currently battling the disease, knew someone who was or had themselves fought.

She said that they are blessed to have the financial support they need for the treatment, but so many others could us the help.

They decided to go ahead with the fundraiser and found the non-profit organization, the Hope Cancer Help Centre, located in Saskatoon would be a great place to donate the funds.

The organization helps residents with medical costs not covered by insurance such as medication, transportation and things like creams to help and dressing.

“It can get very expensive,” said Scribner. “What I like about this organization is that all of the money stays in Saskatchewan.”

The first event held last year was a success, raising more than $9,000. This year, they hope to raise a whole lot more for this very worthy organization. The second steak night fundraiser will be held Saturday, July 14th at the SIR race track located just outside of Saskatoon.

If you are unable to attend, there is a gofundme page setup where you can donate – under SIR … Races for Hope. You can also give money to Crystal, or you can also donate items for the silent auction that will be held.

For more information, tickets or to donate you can call Crystal at 306-460-9915.

It is race day at the track as well. Racing gets under way at about 9 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m., followed by the delicious steak supper ($25 per person). There will also be musical entertainment provided by ‘Hotrod Hulabulu’.
