Kindersley town council members have received public feedback on potential uses for a municipal reserve space at O’Connor Park in Rosedale.
The town invited residents to provide feedback with respect to exploring ideas for potential uses on dedicated municipal reserve land on the north side of O’Connor Park. The parcel of land is partially visible from an opening along Thomson Drive.

Council discussed results of the public feedback at a regular meeting on Aug. 20, and several members expressed their disappointment with the overall response. The nature of responses was more disappointing than the number of responses. There was a total of 18 responses.
Kim Vogel, the town’s director of transportation and environment, told council there was interest shown in potential uses from people living on O’Connor Crescent and Thomson Drive. The town reached out to all residences on O’Connor and Thomson.
She noted that most of the responses came through email. The town presented six potential uses for the oddly shaped space and there was a space for people to suggest their ideas, Vogel explained. Five uses were suggested.
People were able to indicate if they liked or disliked the six uses presented by the town. The six uses are a basketball court, tennis court, unsupervised miniature golf course, beach volleyball court, bocce ball or lawn bowling space, and an open green space.
Out of 18 respondents, 10 people disliked a basketball court, 13 people disliked unsupervised mini-golf, 14 people disliked a tennis court, 15 people disliked a beach volleyball court and a bocce ball or lawn bowling space, and nine people disliked the idea of an open green space.
Therefore, only the open green space was liked by at least 50 per cent of the respondents. As for suggested uses, a community garden and a spray park were each suggested by two people while a skateboard park, outdoor gym and sale of land to property owners were each suggested by a single respondent.
