People in Kindersley and area are going to have another grocery option before the end of 2018. Buy-Low Foods is preparing its new space in the Kindersley Mall.

Buy-Low Foods will become one of the mall’s anchor stores and it is taking over the space most recently occupied by another grocer. Peavey Mart has taken over a space once occupied by Home Hardware, so the mall will soon have both of its anchor spots filled once again.

According to the company, Buy-Low Foods is the largest wholesale distributor to independent food retailers across Canada and the brand operates its own food stores in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. The food retailer has been owned and operated by The Jim Pattison Group since 1995.

Sam Corea, the vice-president of retail for Buy-Low Foods, said the company expects to open its new Kindersley location before the end of the year if everything goes according to plan. The company’s renovation project is on target.

“The construction phase of our project is progressing as scheduled,” Corea said. “We are pleased with the current status of the project considering the scope of work and the degree of changes we have undertaken. The construction team is working hard to complete the many phases of the project.”

He noted that the work includes a new heating and cooling system, light fixtures and flooring and a complete paint and décor package. The company’s retail merchandising and operations teams are anxious to put the finishing touches on the store before it opens for business, he said.

Corea said every department has been designed to maximize the number of products offered at Buy-Low Foods outlets, but also to allow for an easy and speedy in-store experience for the store’s customers.

The size and shape of the space has allowed the company to design a layout that should provide customers with a comfortable shopping experience, according to Corea. He said the company hopes the store will be ready for set up and training crews sometime in November.

He noted that the crews will begin stocking shelves, testing equipment and making the final push to prepare for opening. The company’s product selection will include Canadian products, vegan options, gluten-free products, organic options and products under Buy-Low’s private Western Family label.
