The book, named The Surprise, is a collection of short stories written by young Canadians. It’s available for purchase online and in book stores. The stories were to be a maximum of 400 words.

Rowan Dimitroff said her book was about a girl who went to Hiroshima and she was there when the big bomb dropped and she, as well as many others ended up with leukemia. She had her condition tested to be sure and it was confirmed.
She wanted to support those people who needed it. The girl died in the end but she did find a way to help.
Rowan said they learned about Hiroshima on Remembrance Day, and that was the inspiration for her writing. She said she has always liked writing and thought it was pretty cool to get published.
Riley Becker wrote about a subject he is pretty familiar with – hockey. He said that, in his story, Kindersley made it to the championship finals against Eston and then won on a penalty shot.
Brooklyn Davis said her story was about herself. In it, she fell asleep and had a dream. She said she woke up in her dream in a dark room and began running towards the light. She went down a pole to save a baby and then she actually woke up and asked if it was a dream.
Davis’s story was about a murder mystery. In it, Mr. Wealthington finds a dead boy, one of the richest people in Paris. Wealthington has no money but now inherited the mansion.
She says that she has always read a lot of books and wants to be a creative writer. She said that she loves reading Archie comic books.
“I was really excited,” she said about being published. “My mom was super excited. She put it on Facebook and got lots of likes.”
Danielle LaClare’s story was about a girl who went to sleep and had a dream. She had to learn to fly. She then blacked out.
Benjamin Ortman’s story was about Joseph and Andy, who liked playing card games, especially gin. They went into the woods and played gin. Joseph grew up to become the world’s best player.
