It’s a year of celebration for Mable Stanley (front row, white pants) who turns 100 in December. Last month, her family took the Saskatchewan Roughriders fan to the new stadium to watch her Riders take on Toronto. Above are 26 of her family members – of course, all Rider fans

The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ new Mosaic Stadium is impressive – just ask 99-year-old Mable Stanley, who took in a Canadian Football League game on July 29.

“It’s a lot nicer than the old one,” she said. “I’ve been to quite a few football games and wanted to go see the new one.

“And they actually won,” she added.

The Riders won 38-27 over the Toronto Argonauts.

Mable, a huge Rider fan, was taken to the game as part of her 100th-year celebration. She was joined by 26 of her family members, who have been planning on attending the game since last winter.

Her birthday is actually Dec. 7, but the family wanted to do this for her and it just seemed like the best chance to get together and take her.

She was born and raised in Kindersley and is a huge sports fan, not missing many baseball, hockey or Rider games.

This game, for obvious reasons, was special.

“We were walking around a bit and there were people saying happy birthday and I looked around and there was my granddaughter holding this sign saying ‘Happy 100th birthday’,” said Mable.

She was also placed in handcuffs and ‘arrested,’ but, Mable says, “they didn’t give a reason why.” Although being too rowdy has been mentioned as one of the reasons – she has denied the allegation.

Mable still enjoys walking, knitting and watching baseball, hockey and Rider games.

Her late husband, Murray, used to work with the Senior Klippers and Mable remembers doing a lot of sewing for the guys, stitching up uniforms and the like.

Mable and Murray were married for 30 years in Kindersley before he passed away 35 years ago.

She reflected on her wedding day during her interview.

“It was a stormy day and after the wedding we were driving to Calgary and didn’t make it past Marengo because it was so bad,” she said.

The couple raised two children, Aaron and Cary Lou, who passed away in 2012. She has three grandkids and seven great-grandchildren.

Mable was the oldest of 13 children – five boys and eight girls.

She worked at OK Economy and Extra Foods for a number of years and spent a lot of time at the local ball parks and arenas for many, many years. She has also been involved with the Royal Purple organization and with her church.

Mable also said that she has enjoyed travelling extensively in Canada and the United States.

She moved in to Caleb about six years ago and says she has enjoyed her time there.
