The Elizabeth Middle School Lions hosted the Macklin Hawks on Friday afternoon with a good-sized hometown crowd cheering them on.

The Lions put together an impressive performance on both sides of the ball, chalking up a 53-20 victory.

Coach Cam Aitken said he was very happy with his team’s performance.

Kayden Lake of the Elizabeth Lions scored three touchdowns on Friday to help lead the hometown team to victory

“It was a good game,” he said. “We’re pretty happy with our defence especially. I think they are the best tackling team that we’ve had. All of the coaches were very impressed.”

He added that this year they have a couple of Grade 6 players who are playing regularly just because of their great tackling ability.

Offensively, the team was impressive.

Gabe Esto, who missed the team’s first game, scored three touchdowns. Kayden Lake also scored three.

Lucas Stoltz chipped in a touchdown, scoring on a kickoff return. He also had at least 15 tackles on the defensive side.

Aitken said the team has been working on different offensive formations and will continue to work on the tackling and getting them to use their angles to make them even better.

He said that although wins are important, the focus of the team continues to be player development and their improvement throughout the season.

The team plays tonight in Biggar and will host Kerrobert next Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
