The first-year Kindersley Stallions won the Sask Landing Cup in fine fashion on Friday night over the Gull Lake Greyhounds.

In game three of the best-of-three finals with the Greyhounds (Senior AA Tier 5 champions) in Kindersley, the Stallions had to make a comeback worthy of the record books.

The Stallions were involved in a three-team (not four as previously reported) competition this year that included the Cabri River Rats and Gull Lake, as well as playing in the Fertile Valley Baseball League. In the FVBL, they went 12-0-1 before losing in the final to the Kindersley Raiders.

The Stallions went a perfect 4-0 during the Sask Landing Cup regular season and had a bye into the finals.

They won game one and then lost game two 9-5 to send the series to a third game on Friday night.

“It was quite the game,” said player/manager Austin Jamieson. “It was maybe one of our weaker games defensively this year.

“But Kyle Donaldson started and pitched well and Dallas (McGrath) came in in the fifth and pitched well also.”

Gull Lake was up 4-1 early but the Stallions rebounded in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4. The lead didn’t last long, however, as the Greyhounds came back to score six in the top of five and two more in the top of the sixth to make it 12-5.

Jamieson said that they were confident going into the bottom of the seventh.

“We were down eight, but we all said that we are going to win this one and we took the momentum and won,” he added. “(Landon) Longmire was our first and last run of the inning. it was exciting.”

Jamieson said it was great to get in some extra games through the Sask Landing Cup and they hope to add one or two more teams next year.
