The Klippers are on a bit of a roll.

The Klippers have won six of their past eight games now including a 4-3 victory over the visiting Melville Millionaires Saturday night.

Coach Geoff Grimwood says that the guys are playing hard.

“The guys are putting in a good effort every night and we seem to have different guys step up each time out,” he said. “Saturday we had Kyle Bosch, Cameron Shorrock and Josh Fletcher step up. The game before that it was Justen Close and the game before that it was Tanner Thompson and Curtis Peck.

“It just seems that every night we have different players or lines step up to make the game a success,” he added.

Kindersley’s Kyle Bosch scored his first two goals of the season back-to-back in the first half of the second period in Saturday’s game. While Josh Fletcher scored the eventual game winner late in the second. Curtis Peck got things going with the lone goal of the first period.

Bosch said it felt good to score.

“It felt really good ,” he said. “Just came back from missing a few games due to injury and I just started throwing the puck at the net and a couple went in.”

He also credited his linemates Cam Chorrock and Josh Fletcher for their play.

In Saturday’s game, the Klippers came out hard and played a dominating opening two periods, outshooting the Millionaires 31-15 and outscoring them, obviously, 4-0.

“We were really happy with the first 40 minutes of play,” said Grimwood. “It is definitely an indication of how we want to come out and play every time out.”

However, in the third, the tide turned a bit in favour of the Money men.

“Sometimes when you get the lead you get a little complacent and that is what happened to us,” he added.

The Millionaires would score three to make it close and come within one with a minute and 14 seconds left, making the crowd move forward a litatle bit in their seat.

However, they were able to hang on and get the win.

Goaltender Billy Girard picked up the win in goal, stopping 24/27 shots on the night.

The Klippers will now have a tough run closing out October, starting off in Humboldt tonight before hosting Melfort Saturday; heading back to Humboldt next Tuesday and hosting Battlefords on Halloween night.

Parents weekend

The win capped off another great parents weekend, which was  a busy one.

Thursday night, the Klippers held their 12th annual NHL fantasy draft and men’s night with 22 teams entering, up from 19 teams last year.

Friday evening featured a delicious meal and each Klippers’ player and some local celebrity shooters were auctioned off to the highest bidder in preparation for Saturday night’s Calcutta Shoot-Out challenge following the game.

Game day Saturday included a family pancake breakfast, followed by a pre-game tailgate party.

The shoot-out challenge featured Klipper players and celebrity shooters Kristen Somerville, Shayne Neigum and Johnny Calkins.

This year’s champion was Josh Fletcher with Cody Hodgson finishing second and Calkins third.

Notes

As you may have noticed, Tanner Thompson had the ‘C’ on his chest Saturday and will continue to wear it until Cole Plonikoff’s return from injury, expected to be around Christmas time.

“Cole is still our captain, but Tanner will be wearing the C,” said Grimwood. “Cole and I talked about it and he thought that Tanner should wear it while he is out. We have a good leadership group. in place that is working hard to make the team a success.
