Eighteen young athletes from Kindersley Composite School (KCS) have earned a chance to compete in the provincial track and field championships that will be held this weekend in Prince Albert.

They competed this past weekend in Outlook at the West Central District Meet and had to finish in first or second place to advance to the provincials.

Leading the way for the KCS team were Ashlyn Torrens, Kiahna Dillabaugh (tied) and Briana McBride who won the aggregate title at the districts.

Torrens, a junior, placed in the 80m hurdles (15.55); long jump (3.97m and triple jump (9.10m). Dillabaugh, also a junior, competed in the 100m dash (14.14); 200m dash (31.04) and 400m dash (1:16.21).

McBride, who is in the senior division, competed in the 80m hurdles (15.01); high jump (1.46m); long jump (4.05m) and triple jump (8.31m).

Also earning their spots in the provincials were:

Liam Lennea (midget) – 400m dash (1:01.76) and 800m run (2:24.76)

Stephen Mei (midget) – 1,500m run (5:32.39)

John Orian (midget) – 200m dash (27.98)

Preston Picary (junior) – Discus (32.93m)

Emily Polsfut (junior) – 1,500m run (6:30.28) and 3,000m run (13:56.88)

Kathryn Sawatzky (senior) – 100m dash (14.08) and 200m dash (31.85)

Jill Torrens (midget) – 100m dash (13.74); 200m dash (30.41); 400m dash (1:11.98)

Letitia Tryhuba (midget) – 400m dash (1:15.70)

Brandon Veldhoen (senior) – Discus (32.69m) and Shotput (13.04m)

Sarah Wildman (senior) – Tetrathlon (1586)
