Jacob Mandel has received a conditional discharge in Kindersley provincial court for taking a company truck without permission. He has also been ordered to pay restitution.

Dorinda Stahl, the Crown prosecutor, said that the accused was working for the company but didn’t have permission to take the truck.

Court heard that before Mandel made it to his destination, he got the vehicle stuck while backing down an approach in an attempt to turn around.

The vehicle’s GPS locator wasn’t working, so the company dispatched employees to search for the missing vehicle.

Stahl said the company’s restitution claim for $5,000 included hourly wages for the employees. Mandel has no criminal record,
she added.

Judge Robert Jackson said the restitution seemed “odd” to him, so he ordered Mandel to pay a stand-alone restitution order of $500 to the company by Dec. 31, 2019.

He was ordered to serve a three-month conditional sentence for taking a vehicle without permission, and to pay a $100 victim surcharge by May 31.
