Chris Henderson offers up a little taste of country

Saskatchewan-born country music recording artist Chris Henderson performs to a crowd of more than 100 people on Jan. 12 at the Norman Ritchie Community Centre. Henderson performed as part of a trio and he played music from his repertoire, including his three full-length studio albums. The performer told the crowd he really enjoys telling the stories behind the music. He told a story about how his girlfriend at the time, who he has been married to now for two years, invited him to her home and she left him there while she went to get groceries. He wanted to cook a meal, but all she had was macaroni and cheese and hot dogs. When she came home, she started crying not because she was embarrassed by her food selection, but because none of her boyfriends had ever cooked her a meal. Henderson said the bar was set pretty low and he wrote a song about it. The performer says it’s his favourite story to tell. Henderson even pulled out a trumpet to play a part in his cover of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash.
