Vince Ircandia on analytics to achieve business results

Vince Ircandia, founder and CEO, StellarAlgo

Calgary’s Business: What is StellarAlgo and what does it do?

Ircandia: StellarAlgo helps live audience businesses – like sports franchises – to quickly and cost-effectively organize, analyze and leverage the data they need to make successful business decisions. Our customer data platform allows organizations to easily collect, organize, and drive insight to maximize the engagement, affinity and lifetime value of their customers.

CB: How and when was this company started?

Ircandia: Before I started StellarAlgo, I led the creation and build-out of high-performance analytics cultures and technology stacks within the sports and entertainment industry. While doing this, I experienced first hand the pains of trying to leverage customer and business data to enhance sales and marketing capabilities. The industry tools that were available at the time lacked scalability, actionability and transparency, and for those reasons I founded StellarAlgo.

With our actionable customer data platform, we are able to accelerate the ability of live audience businesses to identify and take action on opportunities. We are achieving significant return on analytics investment with a platform that combines sophisticated data science with simple, elegant usability.

CB: Who are some of your clients right now?

Ircandia: We work with professional sports organizations from prominent leagues like the NBA, NHL, MLS and minor league baseball. Our customer list includes the Portland Trail Blazers, the Vancouver Canucks, U.S. Open Tennis, the Los Angeles Kings, as well as local favourites the Calgary Flames and the Okotoks Dawgs. We also work with other live audience businesses like the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) in Seattle.

CB: Where do you see future growth taking place for the company?

Ircandia: We are extremely focused on continuing to build out our capabilities in order to meet the fast pace of growth we have seen as a business to date. We’ve assembled an excellent team with skill sets that include data architecture, data engineering, software development and data science.

What I’m most proud of is how our SaaS customer data platform leverages sophisticated methods and approaches to turn data into practical and tangible results for businesses. Having just completed a financing round, where we raised $1 million, our plans include continuing to build out on the machine learning and actionability components of our platform so we are positioned to continue to create value for our customers.

CB: Do you see potential to expand what you do to other industries?

Ircandia: We are seeing great results by accelerating our clients’ ability to better understand their customers. We definitely see further growth from increased penetration into North America’s major sports leagues but we are seeing equal opportunity from applications to other industry verticals. An example of this would be our relationship with Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP).

Conventional wisdom is that 90 per cent of the world’s data has been generated in the past two years alone and I believe we are uniquely positioned to make that data actionable for modern businesses.
