The West Central Saskatchewan Oilmen’s Association (WCSOA) has held its 42nd annual golf tournament, and it ended in a tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Teams of two golfers gathered at the Kindersley Regional Park & Golf Course on May 26 for the WCSOA tournament. A total of 68 teams and 136 golfers hit the links at the tournament. An organizer and WCSOA member says the event went well and it was a nice day for golf.

“It turned out to be a great day,” said Jaymie Holland, adding the event was a great success and the sun was shining for most of the day. “We enjoyed some new faces with teams from as far away as Calgary coming out to join in the fun.”

There were eight flights in total with a championship flight and seven additional flights. Holland said the winners of the championship flight are from Calgary, and it was their first time playing at the WCSOA tournament. The pair tied with another team, so an old fashioned coin flip decided the winner.

According to Holland, the team of Vaughn Spengler and Darren Thompson won the coin flip after posting an eight-under 64 over 18 holes. The winners shot 32 on the front nine and later followed it with a 32 on the back nine.

The team of Ryan Corbett and Matt Glencross also shot an eight-under 64 to finish second in the championship flight, but they ended up losing the coin flip. The top two teams from the other seven flights are as follows:

1st Flight – Brett Bacon and Jason Smith (68), Brandon Cooke and John Dahl (70)

2nd Flight – Brady Newmeyer and Rob Cote (72), Morley Swalm and Dave Bitz (74)

3rd Flight – Bear Trapp and Mike Keller (75), Joel Miller and Dean Becker (76)

4th Flight – Jeff Gartner and Chris Winkler (73), Stephen Conway and Brody Gallant (75)

5th Flight – Stephen Hunt and Shane Cormier (78), Jason Bozzard and Gary Becker (79)

6th Flight – Chad Bernier and Reagan Johnston (87), Pete Nedellec and Devin Birecki (87)

7th Flight – Wes Cates and Rob Nutley (83), Eric Conway and Scott Grainger (86)
