The high school volleyball season is coming to a close and all the Kindersley Composite School teams have had fairly successful seasons.

The junior girls and boys volleyball seasons came to an end this past weekend with district championships.

Junior girls

Teagan Elliott of the KCS Kobras junior girls volleyball team bumps the ball up, while team-mate Ashlyn Hadland looks on.

The junior girls hosted the district championships this past Saturday with four teams competing, including Plenty, Kenaston and Beechy.

The girls, coached by Tenille Kirtzinger, did well and made it into the finals, losing to Plenty in a close couple of sets.

“The girls played well,” she said. “They improved a lot over the season and have shown a lot of growth. They have some very good potential moving forward she said.

Junior boys

The Kindersley Composite School junior boys competed in the district championships in Biggar this weekend and did well.

They finished second after round-robin play and took Dinsmore to three sets in the semifinals before losing.

Coach Angy Johnson said the boys did very well and mentioned that it was the first time in many years that KCS even had a junior team.

The senior girls A team, coached by Amanda Fast, competed in Beechy this past weekend and finished in third place. They defeated the Rosetown B team, but lost to teams from Beechy and Kenaston.

Monday, they were scheduled to host Kerrobert, before heading out to Unity on Saturday for conference play that will include teams from Unity, Dalmeny, Rosetown and Maple Creek.

The senior B team competed in a six-team tournament in Luseland on Saturday to wrap up their season and finished in third place.

They started the tournament against a strong Luseland squad and lost in two straight sets, but came back to defeat Biggar in two straight. They then took on Eston and lost in two close sets.

To close out the day, they beat Kerrobert in three sets.

Coaches Tami Reichert and Tammy Torrens said that it was a great season.

“They worked so hard and came together as a true team,” they agreed. “They showed such growth and improvement, as evident by their play over the last week. They had so much fun playing.”

The two teams also hosted league play Wednesday with teams from Eatonia/Marengo and Eston participating.

Senior boys

The boys, coached by Kim Froese and Adrian Leismeister, were in Leader in an eight-team tournament this past weekend and made it to playoffs, losing in a crossover playoff game.
