Kindersley athletes compete in Winter Games

The Saskatchewan Winter Games kicked off in North Battleford on Saturday with more than 1,700 athletes representing nine districts in the province and competing in 17 sports.

Five athletes from Kindersley will compete with Team Rivers West in male and female hockey.

In male hockey, players Ethan Hilbig and Carter Cormier will compete.

They kicked off the Games on Monday, losing both of their pool games by identical scores of 4-3. In game one, they played Team South West and in the second game, they took on Team Saskatoon.

They had one more pool game scheduled against Team South East yesterday at 2:30 p.m.

The team is coached by Dorian Bews of Coleville and Chris Keleher of Eston.

On the girls’ side, players Gracie Georget, Hailey Gray and Shelby Rublee will represent Kindersley.

Theeir first action will be against Team Prairie Central on Thursday at noon, followed by a game against Team Regina at 7:30 p.m. They will close out pool play Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Team South West.
