Kindersley Sledge Hockey is riding a high after hosting an annual tournament. The Kindersley Klippers teams intermediate and junior teams both went undefeated.

The local sledge hockey tournament was played over three days on Nov. 23-25. Games were played at both the West Central Events Centre rink and Co-op Arena. There were 11 teams with six junior (15 and under) teams and five intermediate (16 and over) teams.

Intermediate teams at the tournament were from Kindersley, Bruno, Regina, Calgary and Medicine Hat. There were two junior teams from Swift Current and they were joined by junior teams from Kindersley, Calgary, Edmonton and Regina.

Players on the Klippers intermediate team have joined other teams in previous years, but the team brought in goalie Tracy Arnold of Saskatoon and borrowed two players from the Medicine Hat team. The pick ups from Medicine Hat, Lealand Nickerson and Vince Paiement, made strong contributions.

The intermediate team won its games by scores of 4-1 over the Bruno T-Birds, 4-1 over the Regina Avengers, 8-1 over the Calgary Stingers and 2-1 over the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds. As for scoring, Braden Close led the way for the Klippers in the tournament.

Close, who has been to try outs for the Canadian men’s national team, finished the tournament with 11 points (7G, 4A) in the team’s four games. The two pick ups made contributions with Paiement scoring four goals and Nickerson chipping in three goals.

The Kindersley Klippers junior team won all three of its games for the weekend. The junior team won its games by scores of 3-0 over the Swift Current Ice Breakers (Teal), 5-0 over the Edmonton PSA Blades and 2-0 over the Regina Avengers, so the team did not allow a single goal all tournament.

Nick Elliott led the way with four goals for the Klippers junior team. Brian Fuhr (2), Dorian Herner (2), Ty Eagles and Ryden Walter scored the other goals. Daylan Desjarlais recorded three assists for the junior team.
