The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League held its annual general meetings in Nipawin on the weekend with several items on the agenda, including the bantam draft, which was held Friday morning
All six players that the Klippers chose were defencemen.
Head scout Stef Cormat said that it was a good year for that position.
“We’re very happy with the players we picked up,” he said. “It was a strong year for defencemen so we decided to take this opportunity to load up on the back end.”
For their first pick, seventh overall, they chose Chase Friedt-Mohr of Prince Albert.
He is a fifth-round Western Hockey League draft pick of the Spokane Chiefs and has committed to the P.A. Midget AAA Mintos next year.

The 14-year-old defencemen has played the last two seasons with the Prince Albert Bantam AA Raiders. he is 5’10” tall and weighs in at 159 lbs. Last season he had six goals and 17 assists in 31 games.
Cormat said that Friedt-Mohr was a good pickup for them.
“I was able to watch him a lot this year,” said Cormat. “He is a very good skater and very smart. He plays well defensively, but also has a good offensive side to him.”
The Klippers’ second round draft pick was traded to Weyburn and the third round pick was traded to Nipawin.
In the fourth round, their seventh pick was Noah Barlage of Muenster. The 6’, 150 lb defenceman has played the last two seasons with the Humboldt Bantam AA Broncos. Last season, he had 12 goals and 28 assists in 31 games for the club.
He was chosen in the seventh round by the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds in their bantam draft.
Kindersley also had the 12th pick in the fourth round and with that, they chose Ryan Redekopp of Martensville.
The 15-year-old played last season with the Martensville Bantam AA team. He had two goals and 17 assists in 30 games with the club. He stands 5’5” tall and weighs 115 pounds.
In the fifth round, seventh pick, they chose Wyatt Wilson of Swift Current. Wilson played last season with the Yale Hockey Academy Bantam Prep. team where he scored one goal and had eight assists in 25 games played.
The forward/defenceman stands 6’2” tall and weights 192 lbs. He is just 14 years of age.
Levi Brewer of Eston was chosen in the sixth round. The 15-year-old defenceman played his last two seasons with the West Central Wheat Kings Bantam AA club. Last season he had one goal and six assists in 28 regular season games played. In the playoffs, helping his team to a league championship, he had two goals and two assists in 10 games played.
With their final pick, in round six, they chose defenceman Jacob Hoffrogge of Saskatoon. The 15-year-old defenceman stands 5’7” tall and weighs in at 119 lbs.
He played last season with the Saskatoon Bantam AA Outlaws and had 10 goals with 32 assists in 30 regular season games.
Hoffrogge was also drafted in the second round, 41 overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL bantam draft.
In other news from the meetings:
• All teams agreed that they would help out the Humboldt Broncos to ice a team next season. More details will be released in the weeks to come.
• The SJHL Assistance Program was discussed further.
• Discussions were held on a league-wide pay-to-play model. This idea was rejected, although a decision was made to allow one team to be a part of a pilot project.
• A 2018-19 schedule was drafted, with a final draft to be released soon.
• The SJHL showcase will be held in Warman from Sept. 25 to 28.
• The SJHL/MJHL showcase will be held in the Co-operators Centre in Regina from Jan. 14 to 15.
