The Jr. Klippers won three out of four games on the road last week to boost their record to 5-4-1. They are tied for the Battlefords for first place in the Olympic Division going into this week’s play.

The Klippers started off with two games against the last place La Ronge Ice Wolves, winning 5-3 on Oct. 3rd and 3-2 Oct. 4th.

In their latest games, they were in Flin Flon, where they lost their first, 5-1 on Friday, but bounced back with a 2-1 Shootout win on Saturday.

They now return to the WCEC to take on the Melville Millionaires (3-6-0-1) Saturday in their only game of the week.

In their latest game, Justen Close stopped 49 of 50 shots and three more in the shootout to pick up the win.

Jordan Funk scored the Klippers lone goal at the 23 second mark of the second period and Flin Flon would respond with 6:10 remaining in the third period.

The Klippers would fire 47 shots on Flin Flon netminder Brenden Newton, who currently leads the league in Goals Against with a 1.53 GAA.

The Klippers were 0/7 and the Bombers went 0/8 on the power play.

In Friday’s game, the Bombers outshot the Klippers 44-29 in the 5-1 win.

Curtis Peck would score for the Klippers on the power play at the 7:55 mark of the second period to make the score 2-1, but it was all Bombers from there.

Close would stop 19/23 shots before being replaced by Billy Girard in the second period. Girard stopped 20/21 the rest of the way.

In La Ronge, last Wednesday, the Klippers outshot the hapless Ice Wolves 47-32 in the win.

Thompson got the scoring started for the Klippers on the power play in the first.

But in the second, the Ice Wolves would score two at the 12:03 and 13:14 marks of the period to make it 2-1. Devon Cyr would add one more before the end of the frame to even the score.

In the third, Cody Hodgson would pick up the eventual game winner scoring unassisted on the power play at the 13:14 mark of the period.

The Klippers would go 2/5 on the power play, while the Ice Wolves were 0/5.

In the opening game of the roads trip, the Klippers outshot the Ice Wolves 53-34 in the win.

Outstanding rookie Will Van der Sloot got the green and white on the board with the lone goal of the first period, scoring on the power play.

Cam Shorrock and Kyle Turanski scored for the Klippers in the second and the score was 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.

It was all Klippers in the third, as Brody Ryberg would score his first of the season and the eventual game winner, just two minutes into the final frame. Funk would add one more to make it 5-2

The Ice Wolves added another to close out the scoring.

Kindersley went 2/4 on the power play, while the Ice Wolves went 2/6.

Notes…

The Klippers are third in the league on the power play with a 21.7 per cent success rate, scoring 10 goals in 46 chances.

Better yet, they are second in the league, in the penalty killing department, with an 89.3 per cent average, allowing just six goals on 56 chances.

On the other side of the picture, the Klippers are number one in the penalty minute department, having spent 294 minutes in the box thus far.
