The Kindersley Composite School Kobras defeated the Martensville Royals under the lights on Friday in their high school football home opener by a score of 22-1.

The Kobras now have a record of 2-1 and host Delisle this Friday beginning at 4 p.m. Delisle has a record of 3-0 this season and defeated the Kobras 22-2 in Delisle on Sept. 15.

After a slow start on Friday, the Kobras seemed to gain confidence and were able to pull out the win.

“It was a great game for our offence,” said head coach Tavis Lehman. “They were able to build some confidence up as the game went along and move forward.”

He said the coaches did a great job in recognizing what the team needed to do better.

“Some of the coaching staff did a good job in recognizing some of the mistakes we were making earlier and they were able to make some adjustments to move the ball forward and the guys executed the changes well,” said Lehman.

He also mentioned the great job that the defence is doing – only allowing one point is quite an accomplishment.

“Can’t complain about how they are playing at all,” he said.

Lehman hopes to carry the momentum in to this Friday’s game.

“I think we played well against them in our first game,” he said. “I know we have the athletic ability to compete against them, we just need to execute better than we did in our last game.”

It should be a great game and everyone is invited to come on down to the field Friday to cheer the hometown athletes on. Pick up some great food at the tent, purchase some 50/50s and get your raffle tickets.

It should be a great night.
