Three Kindersley senior high school boys will compete at the provincial golf championships this weekend.

The boys team of Kyler Cote, Brody Istace, Dixon Hrycak and Tristan Wagner competed at the West Central Senior golf championships in Outlook recently and won the boys’ team championship after a windy, 18-hole round.

Cote, Istace and Hrycak will make the trek to Estevan for the provincials to represent Kindersley Composite School.

Cote and Istace tied for second in the tournament with a score of 84. The winner was Riley Lahey of Eston with a score of 83.

On the girls’ side, the Kindersley squad was the only female team at the tournament, so won the championship by default. The team included Rebecca Sedgewick, Kendall Dixon, Blair Gilmour and Shayla Olafson.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments they won’t be able to attend the provincials.

Coach Dave Luukkonen was excited about the team and their performance at the recent west central championships.

Sedgwick had a good round, coming in third place. The winner was Biggar’s Madison Genaille, who shot a 128. Coming in second was Jordan Matheson of Davidson.

“This is the first time in my career that I had a full team,” he said. “They are not only good golfers but really good kids.

The players who are heading to the provincial championships will go for a practise round on Thursday; play a round Friday and be seeded for the championships on Saturday.
