The updated monitor offers room calibration and distortion-free performance in a small package
When IK Multimedia introduced the iLoud Micro Monitor in 2016, it provided a rare mix of compact size and reliable sound quality. The latest version, the iLoud Micro Monitor Pro, builds on that foundation with key upgrades aimed at professionals and serious hobbyists working in less-than-ideal studio environments.
These monitors are designed for independent creators who rely on clean, uncoloured audio for editing, mixing, voice work and multimedia production—without access to a full studio setup.
The new model maintains a compact footprint and remains easy to set up, but it now delivers twice the power—50 watts per speaker—and enhanced clarity across the frequency range. Bass response is tighter, high-end detail is smoother, and distortion remains virtually nonexistent, even at higher volumes.
Internal components have also been improved. The woofer now uses a custom cellulose fibre cone for more natural low frequencies, while the tweeter has been upgraded to a larger, low-distortion silk dome for a warmer top end. The result is a balanced, wide soundstage that supports critical listening across a variety of content formats.

One of the standout features is the system’s built-in room calibration—a process that compensates for acoustic issues caused by room shape, speaker placement or reflective surfaces. Using IK Multimedia’s free X-MONITOR software and the included ARC measurement microphone, users can complete a calibration routine that adjusts the monitors’ output to suit their space. Once configured, listeners can switch between standard, desk and calibrated modes using a button on the back. No computer required.
In addition to room correction, the X-MONITOR software includes 15 factory presets that simulate how audio will sound on other playback devices, such as earbuds, bookshelf speakers or TV sets. This helps creators preview their content the way listeners will actually hear it across different platforms.
The design includes a few modest but practical refinements. The rear panel now features soft-touch buttons with indicator lights. EQ controls allow for subtle changes in treble and bass, and a low-frequency roll-off switch helps reduce boominess or integrate a subwoofer. The previous bulky power brick has been replaced by a standard AC cable, making the setup more portable.
In shifting toward a more professional profile, some consumer features have been removed. Bluetooth and the 3.5 mm auxiliary input are gone, replaced by RCA and balanced XLR inputs commonly used in audio production. These may require a USB interface or audio adapter for computer users. While the USB-C port on the rear suggests modern connectivity, it is reserved for calibration and firmware updates only.
In my testing, the Pro version consistently outperformed the original. It revealed finer details, delivered sharper stereo imaging, and offered a flatter response curve—qualities critical for precision audio work. Even in rooms with poor acoustics, the calibration system helped ensure consistent playback.
For readers unfamiliar with studio terminology, it’s helpful to distinguish monitors from regular speakers. While all monitors are speakers, not all speakers are monitors. Monitors are built for sound accuracy and avoid boosting bass or treble for entertainment value. This makes them more suitable for anyone working with audio who needs to hear exactly what’s there.
Pricing starts at approximately $391.99 for a single unit or $783.99 for the pair, which includes the ARC calibration microphone. A travel bag for both monitors is also available for $66.99.
Our verdict
As more Canadians turn to home-based creative work—from podcasting to online education—the demand for compact, dependable audio solutions continues to grow. The iLoud Micro Monitor Pro offers a portable, professional-grade tool for creators who prioritize faithful sound reproduction over convenience features. For those seeking accurate monitoring without a full studio, it’s a strong investment.
