The musician was most recently recognized with a 2017 Robert Merritt for the Outstanding Original Score he wrote for a play called “Tompkinsville” and Sherwood also won a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2013 for Contemporary Singer. The award-winning solo artist was also named Best Male Artist of the Year in 2012 by the International Acoustic Music Awards.

Tickets for arts council shows are available at Lela’s Music Centre, LaBelle Boutique and Integra Tire. Tickets are also available online at www.ticketpro.ca or at the door if the show has not already sold out. People have the option to purchase a five-pack of tickets at a lower price per ticket.

The arts council has been adding a theme or feature to its concerts this year and, according to a spokesperson, the organization will be serving hot dogs during the intermission of the Sherwood concert this Friday.

In an interview, Sherwood said he is in the middle of 10 concerts over 13 days in Saskatchewan. The musician performed at an Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) showcase and his current tour was booked through the annual OSAC audition.

He noted that he has showcased in different settings in the past. He recognized that Atlantic Canada has a showcase opportunity known as Contact East, but he has showcased to audition for performances at awards shows. Sherwood said he has showcased on two previous occasions at Contact East.

The musician said he has not performed much in Saskatchewan. In fact, he had only played once in Regina before his current OSAC showcase and tour, and it was a house show. He said the house show in Regina was part of a house concert tour across parts of Manitoba.

Sherwood said he has performed in Alberta several times, but only in the major centres. His current tour is an introduction to performing in rural Saskatchewan and he noted that he is looking forward to it because “this is my first real Saskatchewan experience.”
