A byelection has been called for the Kindersley provincial riding on March 1 and Elections Saskatchewan officials are reminding eligible residents to get on the voters list if they’re not already registered.

Saskatchewan Party candidate Ken Francis, New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan candidate Travis Hebert and Saskatchewan Green Party candidate Yvonne Potter-Pihach were the only candidates to file nomination papers by the deadline of Monday at 3 p.m.
The polls on March 1 will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be 43 polls at 20 polling stations across the constituency. In Kindersley, they’ll at the Elks Hall, Kindersley Christian Fellowship Church and Caleb Village.
There will also be five days of advanced polling at six locations in the constituency, from Feb. 23 to 27. The voting takes place on Feb. 23, 26 and 27 from 3 to 10 p.m., and Feb. 24 and 25 from noon to 7 p.m.
There will also be advanced polls in Eston, Kerrobert, Macklin, Major and Tranping Lake. Registered, eligible voters can vote at any of the advanced polls, but they have to vote at a specific poll when voting on March 1. Byelection polls will be indicated on a Voter Information Card (VIC).
There will also be polls in several surrounding communities: Coleville, Dodsland, Brock, Flaxcombe, Marengo, Eatonia and Glidden. The polling stations are listed under the proclamation on the website.
In order to vote at an advanced poll or on March 1, you must either present one piece of approved photo identification with your name and address, or two pieces of approved identification such as a birth certificate and a utility bill. A list of accepted pieces of identification is available on the website.
To be eligible to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, have lived in Saskatchewan since Aug. 2, 2017, and ordinarily be a resident of the constituency where the byelection is being held.
Voters have to register by Feb. 20 in order to receive their VIC in the mail. You can register online at www.elections.sk.ca or by calling 1-877-958-8683 before Feb. 20 to ensure you receive a VIC before March 1. The first cards were mailed out last Friday.
If you’re not registered by Feb. 20, you can register at an advanced poll or a poll on election day. You’re reminded it will take longer at the polling station if you must register to vote. Registered voters who don’t receive a VIC in the mail by Feb. 20 are asked to call the number.
Voter information cards first went in the mail on Feb. 9, according to Elections Saskatchewan. If your voter information or mailing address has changed recently, contact Elections Saskatchewan to update the information.
