The Kindersley Kobras finished their season in Martensville on Saturday as the hometown Royals won 34-7. As the third-place 3A team in Conference 2, the Kobras travelled to play the second-place 3A Royals.

While the teams played fairly evenly at the start, Martensville “had polished their offence with a lot of tricks,” said Kobra head coach Tavis Lehman.

The Royals drove the ball to the Kindersley end zone. Their touchdown play was doubly crucial for the Kobras as a key player, Shaun Cranston, the middle linebacker and captain on the defence, injured a shoulder and missed the rest of the game.

As a result, the Kobras couldn’t get their offence going.

Martensville led 14-0 at halftime, said Lehman.

The Kobras rallied in the second half, drove the ball downfield and scored a touchdown to make the game 14-7.

Preston Edgerton got outside on a rushing play and sped past the Martensville defence, going over 30 yards for the major. Lucas Lizee was good on the extra-point attempt.

The Royals responded with their own touchdown.

The Kobras drove downfield but came up short on a third and goal, short-yardage attempt, said the coach.
