Defensive lineman Cole Milner and linebacker Sam Toth combine to sack Rebel quarterback Maxton Heise for a loss of seven yards during the Kobras season opener Friday.

The Kindersley Kobras kicked off the high school football season on Friday afternoon with the Delisle Rebels paying a visit.

Although the out come of the game was disappointing, the coaching staff found some areas of the team that need some improvement. The offence started slowly and had trouble the whole game trying to find something that worked.

Yards were hard to come by as the offence sputtered against a strong Delisle defence. The offence never really found any rhythm producing several two and outs in the first half.

Delisle’s defence played well forcing the Kobras to take a safety on their first possession. The Rebels offence rolled along as they punted for a single point, scored a touchdown on their next set of downs making the score 10-0 after the first quarter. The Kobras’ misfortune continued in the second quarter as they ran into penalty trouble. The Rebels scored a rushing touchdown and also cashed in on a punt return to make the score 24-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Delisle took over the game scoring points on their next two turns on offence. The Rebels’ defence also forced the Kobras to give up another safety on the last play of the third quarter. The Kobras kicked off to start the fourth, and to show what type of day it was for the young team, the Rebels’ player ran the kick back for a touchdown, fumbling the ball to himself on the way to the end zone.

The first possession of the final quarter finally produced some offence for the Kobras as they marched down the field with some nice running plays for big gains before stalling at mid field. The Rebels then went to the trick playbook and used a flea-flicker to gain 30 yards and move the ball within the shadow of the Kobras’ goal posts.

A quick sweep on the next play scored another touchdown for the visitors. The convert was missed making the score 54-0. The kickoff went into the end zone and the Kobras’ player attempted to run the ball out. He was tackled in the end zone for a loss of one point making the score 55-0.
