The Kindersley Sr. Klippers are still undefeated after a pair of wins on the weekend, and the team collides with the undefeated Wilkie Outlaws this weekend.

Fans were treated to a wild game on Dec. 7 when the Unity Miners were in town for a game at the Co-op Arena. Kindersley defeated Unity by a score of 8-7, but the Miners scored late in the third period with only one second left on the clock to make the score appear closer.

The Sr. Klippers played a more controlled game on Dec. 8 when the Biggar Nationals returned to town. Kindersley defeated Biggar by a score of 8-2 to move to a perfect record of 8-0 on the season. The team is tied for first place in the Sask West Hockey League.

Wilkie also has a perfect record of 8-0 for a share of the league lead at 16 points this season. Something has got to give when the two undefeated teams play on Dec. 15 in Wilkie. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Kindersley’s Shayne Neigum had a weekend to remember with a four-goal performance in the 8-7 win over Unity and, according to the SWHL website, he also recorded a hat trick in the 8-2 win over Biggar. The Sr. Klippers forward did not get an assist all weekend, but he was busy scoring goals.

Johnny Calkins and Brody Ryberg recorded a goal and two assists each in the win over Unity. Jesse Ismond and Landon Longmire also pitched in with goals. Ismond and Kyle Donaldson each had a goal and two assists in the Biggar game.

Calkins, Longmire and Troy Boisjoli had productive nights with a goal and an assist each versus Biggar. Luke Sproule has started and finished every game in net for the Sr. Klippers so far this season. He stopped 36 of 43 shots versus Unity and 17 of 19 shots versus Biggar.

Coach Matt Glencross said with a total of 92 shots between the two teams in the Unity game, there was not much defence being played. He said the team played better in the Biggar game, but Kindersley forced the Nationals to play its game.

He noted that Kindersley played Unity’s game on Friday, and it resulted in a high-scoring, close game. Each team scored three goals in the third period on Friday. Glencross said there are not many teams with the ability to beat the Sr. Klippers at their game.

The Outlaws are a team that poses a threat to Kindersley regardless of whether or not the Sr. Klippers get to play their game. Glencross said the Sr. Klippers knew they were preparing for Wilkie, so they wanted to get on the same page by playing a good game against the Nationals.

According to the coach, the story of the Biggar game was Kindersley stayed out of penalty trouble and took advantage on the power play. The Sr. Klippers scored five power play goals in nine chances versus the Nationals.

Glencross said it is a recipe the team has to follow against Wilkie because the Outlaws will put up big numbers on the power play. Only one team is likely to leave the arena undefeated after Saturday, and the coach is looking forward to the game.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he said of the first meeting of the season between the teams. “It’s kind of a date everyone in our dressing room for sure and, I think, a lot of people in the league have had marked down on their schedule.”
